The following is issued on behalf of the LegCo Secretariat:
The Legislative Council (LegCo) Secretariat has taken special arrangements today (January 3) to facilitate the conduct of disinfection work for water supply in the LegCo Complex, following a water sample taken from the Dining Hall of the LegCo Complex was tested positive for Legionnaires' Disease (LD).
Starting from around 2.30pm today, the Architectural Services Department has been carrying out disinfection work of the water supply system in the LegCo Complex in order to reduce greatly the risk of LD to users of the Complex. It is envisaged that the whole disinfection work will take about 36 hours to complete. Post-disinfection water samples will then be taken to ensure adequacy of disinfection.
During this period, fresh water supply to the Complex will be suspended while flushing water supply will not be affected. Some toilets will be temporarily closed. Temporary water supply arrangement has been made with the Water Supplies Department to provide water in toilets and pantries for washing purpose. For drinking water, users of the Complex are requested to use water dispensers instead.
Meanwhile, a briefing was organised by the Centre for Health Protection today in the LegCo Complex to brief LegCo Members, Members' staff and LegCo Secretariat staff on the symptoms of LD and its precautionary measures. Health advice has also been issued to users of the LegCo Complex to prevent LD.
The government announced yesterday (January 2) that nine water samples taken on December 28 and 29, 2011, including one sample from the water tap in the Dining Hall of the LegCo Complex, were tested positive for LD.
