Summer Music Workshops for young children to develop interest in music
*****************************************************

Learning music through interesting games and interactive activities is one of the best ways to develop children's interest in music. "Summer Music Workshops - First Music Lessons" will be held during the summer holidays for children aged 5 to 7 to help them explore their interest in music.

Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the interactive fun workshops will be held in July and August at 13 venues throughout the territory.

Children aged 5 to 7 who have not received any music training are welcome to apply. Each child has to be accompanied by an adult. The deadline for applications is June 7.

The workshops, conducted in Cantonese, will consist of five sessions in which children will be introduced to diverse Chinese and Western orchestral instruments, from string and wind instruments to percussion, as well as basic music theory on music notes, letter names and rhythm.

The tuition fee for the five workshops is $200. A ballot will be drawn if the workshops are oversubscribed. For workshops not fully taken up after the deadline, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who attend all five workshops will be given a certificate of attendance.

Application forms are available at the Music Office's website www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice, all LCSD performing venues and the Music Office's music centres. For enquiries, please call 2158 6466 or 2582 5321.
