The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Film Development Council:
The Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), Mr Jack So, and the Head of Create Hong Kong, Mr Jerry Liu, will attend the premiere of the film "Lover's Discourse" this evening (January 4) to show their support for the local film industry.
"Lover's Discourse" is the seventh film financed by the Film Development Fund (FDF) to be screened in Hong Kong. The estimated production budget for the film is $6.18 million and the amount of government finance is $1.85 million.
The film is an urban romance with six episodes to reflect the views of modern city dwellers on love affairs. It was nominated for the New Currents award at the 15th PUSAN International Film Festival and Best New Director at the 47th Golden Horse Awards last year.
"The film has engaged two Hong Kong new generation directors, Mr Derek Tsang and Mr Jimmy Wan. Its fresh and trendy style will be appealing to the local audience," Mr So said.
Since its launch in 2007, the FDF scheme has approved 14 film projects. These films have involved eight first-time directors of commercial productions.
"The nurturing of talent on all fronts is vital to the film industry's sustainable development. The FDC will continue its full support in this aspect. We also hope that there will be more commercial investments in film productions of various genres so that the industry will continue to flourish," Mr So said.
In October 2007, the Government injected $300 million into the FDF and expanded its scope to partly finance small-to-medium budget film productions. The 14 applications approved so far have involved a total funding of about $41.23 million.
