First consignment of Mainland chilled beef passes tests
*******************************************************

The first consignment of chilled beef imported from the Mainland, totalling about nine metric tonnes in weight, has passed tests.

"On arrival at the Man Kam To Food Control Office yesterday (December 31), samples were collected from the consignment for testing of veterinary drug residues," a spokesman for the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"Results of laboratory tests confirmed today (January 1) that all the samples were satisfactory, and a release letter was issued by the FEHD. The chilled beef has been released for sale," he said.

Under the arrangement agreed by the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the CFS, stringent control measures have been implemented to ensure that the chilled beef imported is safe for consumption, the spokesman added.
