New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin tonight
****************************************************

Tens of thousands of people poured into Sha Tin tonight (December 31) to take part in the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival 2010.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the carnival began at 8.30pm and runs until 12.15am on New Year's Day at Sha Tin Park, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza cum City Art Square.

Decorated with festive lighting, the carnival included a variety of delightful entertainments including an acrobatic performance; pop singing by local singers Chet Lam and Swing; standard and Latin American dance, modern dance, tap dance and jazz dance performances; music performances including piano recitals, percussion, folk songs, a symphonic band and pipe band performances; a film show "Ah Ying", interactive games and tarot reading stalls.

At the "Make-a-wish" corner, people wrote down their New Year wishes on message slips which were displayed on a TV Wall. City Art Square, which showed sculpture from around the world, turned into a fringe performance stage, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The carnival reaches its climax at midnight with the countdown ceremony accompanied by pyrotechnics from the rooftops of Sha Tin Town Hall and Sha Tin Public Library.
