The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 24) successfully pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $99,000 for 109 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the Tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Lucky Dragon Boat Restaurant Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $46,347.85, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other two defendants, Asia Intelligence (H.K.) Limited and Yum Chi Hung trading as Kawo Frozen Meat Foods Company, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $48,737.01 and $4,014.5 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $215, $225 and $129 respectively as the cost of the claim.
