The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is pleased to present a concert by the China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) in January 2011. Renowned pianist Yim Wan is also invited, offering patrons an unforgettable evening.
The China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong), founded by conductor Lim Kek-han more than 30 years ago, is one of the most popular local orchestras. In the coming concert, under the baton of music director and conductor Lim Kek-han, the orchestra will play an enriching programme, including Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 1 and No. 5", Mozart's "Piano Concerto No. 21 in C, K. 467" and Dvorák "Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, 'New World'".
Yim Wan, born in a family of musicians, has won numerous awards, such as the John Elvin Prize and the William R Abate Memorial Prize. She has performed frequently in Mainland China and overseas, and collaborated with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra and others.
Recently, Yim has presented a number of masterclasses and lectures in Hong Kong and the Mainland, and has been serving as a judge for regional and national youth competitions. She is also devoted to various charity projects and has played at many fund-raising concerts. Yim is currently teaching in the Department of Music of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
This concert by the China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) will be staged at 8pm, January 23, 2011 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre. Tickets priced at $140, $110 and $80 are now available at the URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
