The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
It has come to the attention of the Legislative Council's Subcommittee to Study Issues Arising from Lehman Brothers-related Minibonds and Structured Financial Products (the Subcommittee) that reports appearing to cover the Subcommittee's observations on the evidence given by and performance of witnesses at its closed hearings were published by two local newspapers today (December 23). The Subcommittee expresses grave concern about this. Since the Subcommittee is still at the stage of taking evidence, it has yet to finalise its views on the matters under study. The reports made in the two local newspapers do not represent the view or position of the Subcommittee. In order not to prejudice the impartiality of the work of the Subcommittee and bring unfairness to the witnesses attended before it, the Subcommittee hereby makes this statement for the purpose of clarification.
