The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, has appointed Mr Anderson Chow Ka-ming and Professor Leonard Cheng Kwok-hon as Non-Executive Directors of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive.
The appointments are for a term of two years, from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012.
Mr Chow is a Senior Counsel. He serves on a number of government advisory boards and appeal panels, including as Deputy Chairman of the Administrative Appeals Board.
Professor Cheng is Dean of the School of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He also serves as a member of the Statistics Advisory Board.
Announcing the appointments today (December 20), Mr Tsang said, "With the rich experience and expertise of Mr Chow and Professor Cheng respectively in the legal sector and the business management field, they will provide an invaluable contribution to the work of SFC."
Mr Tsang also paid tribute to the outgoing Non-Executive Directors, Mr Kenneth Kwok Hing-wai, Professor Liu Pak-wai and Mr Zhang Shengman. Their terms of appointment will expire after December 2010.
"The service of the three Non-Executive Directors in the past years has been instrumental in enhancing the corporate governance, accountability and transparency of SFC. We are grateful for their dedication and enthusiasm, and look forward to their continued support in the development of Hong Kong's financial services sector," Mr Tsang said.
The SFC is chaired by Dr Eddy Fong. Other serving Non-Executive Directors of SFC are Mr Chan Kam-lam, Mr Lawrence Lee Kam-hung, Mrs Angelina Lee Wong Pui-ling and Mr Wong Kai-man.
