Appointment to Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service

     The Chief Executive has appointed Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries and Conditions of Service (Judicial Committee) for a period of two years with effect from January 1, 2011, a Government spokesman announced today (December 13).

     The Chief Executive has also appointed Ms Ayesha Macpherson and re-appointed Professor Chan Yuk-shee and Mr Brian Li Man-bun as members of the Judicial Committee for a period of two years with effect from January 1, 2011.

     "We would like to thank the outgoing Chairman, Mr Christopher Cheng Wai-chee, for his invaluable contributions to the Committee over the years, particularly in his leadership of the Committee's work in mapping out the appropriate institutional structure, mechanism and methodology for the determination of judicial remuneration in Hong Kong," the spokesman said.

     Mr Cheng will retire on December 31, 2010.  

     The Judicial Committee is tasked to advise and make recommendations to the Chief Executive on matters concerning the salary and conditions of service of judges and judicial officers.

     Other members of the Judicial Committee are Miss Jacqueline Pamela Leong, Mr Chow Chung-kong and Mr Lester Garson Huang.
