LegCo Building Open Day to be held tomorrow (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The annual event of the Legislative Council (LegCo) - the LegCo Building Open Day will be held tomorrow (December 4) from 10am to 6pm. LegCo will move into the LegCo Complex at the Tamar site next year, the upcoming open day is therefore the last time to be organised in the existing LegCo Building.

     To make the event more memorable and interesting, the President Chair of the LegCo under British rule and other exhibits which have a special meaning to the Legislature will be displayed in the LegCo Building on the open day. It is hoped that the members of the public can have a better understanding on the history of the Legislature.

     Besides visiting the nearly century-old LegCo Building, members of the public can also join different activities and games to know more about the functions of the LegCo and the LegCo Building's architectural value. The activities include the "LegCo Quiz" game, "LegCo Building Puzzle Challenge" and "Colouring the LegCo Building". A photo corner and an exhibition area will also be set up outside the LegCo Building for individual LegCo members to meet the public and take photos with them. In addition, interactive computer games on LegCo and Christmas e-cards sending service will also be arranged to foster a more joyful and pleasant atmosphere for the event.

     The President of LegCo, Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Miriam Lau Kin-yee, and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Fred Li Wah-ming, will officiate at an opening ceremony at 9.30am tomorrow outside the LegCo Building to mark the start of the event.

     Admission is free and no ticket is required for the event. Those interested in visiting the LegCo Building are requested to assemble outside Public Entrance II of the Building (facing the Statue Square) at any time from 10am to 6pm tomorrow to wait for admission at regular intervals. Meanwhile, starting from 10am, fast pass for visiting the LegCo Building during 12.30pm to 4.30pm will be distributed upon request outside Public Entrance II of the Building on a first-come-first-served basis. Fast pass holders can visit the LegCo Building at a designated time. In addition to tours conducted in Cantonese, this year's open day will also provide English (12pm, 2pm and 4pm) and Mandarin (11am, 1pm and 3pm) tours to accommodate the needs of different visitors.

     The touring route will be one-way only and members of the public will enter at Public Entrance II and exit at Public Entrance I of the LegCo Building. They will receive a souvenir before leaving the Building.
