Three theft suspects returned to Hong Kong (with photo)

     Three local suspects were returned by the Guangdong Public Security Department to the Hong Kong Police (HKP) through Huanggang Boundary Control Point today (December 3).

     The three men, aged 39 to 45, were suspected to be in connection with a theft case in which some 265 kilograms of gold worth about $90 million were stolen in Yuen Long on October 22 this year.

     Extensive investigations by Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North led to the identification of the three suspects.  As they were believed to have left for the Mainland, HKP through its Liaison Bureau sought the assistance of the Guangdong Public Security Department in locating them.

     Based on the information provided by HKP, the Guangdong Public Security Department made a prompt arrest. With the information from the Guangdong Public Security Department, HKP have recovered most of the stolen goods inside a private car located in the New Territories.

     The three suspects are being detained for further enquiries.
