The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, today (December 3) went to the office of Legislative Council member Mr Wong Kwok-kin in Yau Tong to visit the elderly there and have lunch with them.
The Lok Kwan Social Service offers lunch support programme for the elderly at Mr Wong's office. Mr Tang chatted with elderly participants in the programme to find out about its operational and service needs. This also enabled him to better understand the difficulties encountered by the elderly in their daily lives. The elderly participants expressed their views on admission to elderly homes, allowances for the elderly, medical services, and other topics during the discussion. They said they hoped the Community Care Fund could lend a helping hand to the elderly in need.
Mr Tang said he hoped to approach the community directly and to listen to the needs of the disadvantaged at the preparatory stage of the Community Care Fund. This could lead to better arrangements for the operation of the fund, enabling it to help the needy to the fullest extent.
