Chaplin's classics to be screened with new music in January
***********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will present a multi-media show entitled "Silent Film New Music: Chaplin & Philip Glass", produced by Contemporary Musiking, in January 2011.

This is a "crossover" production, with Charlie Chaplin's cinematic classics accompanied by a live band performing new film scores, as well as Philip Glass' string quartets. A multimedia feast of old and new and two modernist masters in the fields of film and music, this production guarantees the audience an extraordinary experience.

The film screenings include "His Musical Career" (1914), "In The Park" (1915), "Behind The Screen" (1916) and "Easy Street" (1917). Four of Hong Kong's hottest composers - George Lam, Aenon Loo, Ng Cheuk-yin and Joyce Tang - have written new film scores to accompany the screenings, in addition to Philip Glass' Strings Quartets No. 1, 2 and 3.

Contemporary Musiking (CM) is a Hong Kong based arts organisation devoted solely to the promotion and creation of contemporary and experimental music. Since its launch, CM has impressed local and overseas audience with its fresh programming and experimental productions merging contemporary music with technology and emergent media.
