LegCo President to conduct overseas duty visit to the Republic of Korea

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     At the invitation of the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea, the President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing, will conduct a five-day overseas duty visit tomorrow (November 25) to the Republic of Korea.

     While in the Republic of Korea, Mr Tsang will visit the National Assembly and meet with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Park Hee-tae. Mr Tsang will also meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Kim Sung-Hwan, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Min Dong-seok.

     Mr Tsang will go to Ulsan by riding the high-speed train (Korea Train Express). In Ulsan, Mr Tsang will pay a visit to Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Posco, two of the large-scaled enterprises, to gain a better understanding of the development of heavy industry in the Republic of Korea. Moreover, he will tour Gyeongju which is the capital city of the ancient Shilla Kingdom.

     Meanwhile, Mr Tsang will take this opportunity to visit Samsung Electronics which is one of the biggest manufactures of electronic products in the Republic of Korea. Mr Tsang will also visit the National Folk Museum as well as Cheonggyecheon and Insadong in Seoul to know more about the history and cultural development of the Republic of Korea.

     Mr Tsang will leave Korea and return to Hong Kong on November 29 to complete the five-day duty visit. He hoped that the visit would strengthen the bilateral relationship between Hong Kong's legislature and the Republic of Korea.

     Mr Tsang will be accompanied by the Secretary General of the LegCo Secretariat, Ms Pauline Ng Man-wah, and the Council Secretary, Ms Rebecca Lee, on his visit.
