Five employers ordered to pay MPF contributions

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 19) successfully pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $63,000 on behalf of 26 employees who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, one of the defendants, Painting International Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $34,700.94, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, namely A to Z Multi-media Co Limited, Leung Tung Man trading as Willas Engineering Company, Wong Tak Fai Onyx and City Wide Logistics Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $17,040.55, $5,866.91, $5,344.5 and $715 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Adjudicator further ordered the defendants to pay $160, $126, $99, $179 and $56 respectively as the costs of the claim.
