Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 592 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 19 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

     The operation concluded at 7 p.m. today (Nov 16 2010) and a total of 201 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 421 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 171 FPTs for other traffic offences.  

     Twenty pedestrians and 214 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,506 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to October this year.

     Of them, 53.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
