Young artists sketch Government House (with photos)
***************************************************

More than 20 young artists sketched Government House today (November 6), capturing the 155-year-old historical monument with creativity and imagination.

Most of the teenage painters who participated in the activity are secondary school students. They are trained in local schools and studios, and many are award-winners in local and overseas art competitions.

Arranged by the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, a briefing on the history and architectural features of Government House was given to the participants at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre in the morning. They then made sketches at Government House in the afternoon, giving life to the distinguished building and its colourful gardens.

The artists spent about three hours to finish the sketches, using various materials such as watercolours or acrylics, in the front yard or the back yard.

The completed paintings will be displayed at Government House during the open day tomorrow. Selected paintings may also be adopted as the design for government greeting cards and souvenirs.

This year marks the 155th anniversary of Government House. In addition to the youngsters' paintings, boards showing the history, architecture and important moments of the distinguished building will be displayed during open day tomorrow. There will be docent services in Government House, and musical performances by the Hong Kong Police Band, student choirs and ensembles in the garden.
