     In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Food and Health Bureau said that the number of live pigs arriving at slaughterhouses today (November 4) was 4,852, with 4,576 imported from the Mainland and 276 from local farms. The wholesale price for live pigs ranged from $1,186 to $1,339 per 100 catties, with an average price of $1,264.

     According to information available, the estimated number of live pigs to be imported from the Mainland for tomorrow (November 5) will be 4,490. There will be a supply of some 100 live pigs from local farms tomorrow. The total number of live pigs available for auction tomorrow will be about 4,590.

     Over the past seven days, the daily average of the overall supply of live pigs in Hong Kong was 4,700 and the supply was generally stable. Besides, the supply of chilled and frozen pork is very sufficient, and the public has largely accepted these two types of pork meat choices in recent years.  The market share of chilled and frozen pork together has surpassed 50%.

     The spokesman added that the public and the trade may visit the website of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (www.fehd.gov.hk) to learn about the daily live pig supply and auction prices, as well as the estimated live pig supply on the following day.
