Ten employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 14) pursued 10 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $136,000 on behalf of 30 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, a defendant, Painting International Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $36,347.31, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other nine defendants, namely Thunder House Electrical Appliance Limited, Blue Star Limited formerly known as Tricorn (HK) Limited, Maestro (HK) Limited, Lanco International Holdings Limited, Kwok Miu-wah trading as Pure Lux, Chan Ching-man trading as 天禄窗饰装璜有限公司, MBS Studios Limited, Forever Concept International Limited and Jeck Contact Center Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $23,100, $28,980, $16,177.94, $6,825, $6,302.59, $5,985, $5,779.72, $3,725.75 and $3,135.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable respectively.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $215, $106, $164, $119, $70, $70, $70, $76, $119 and $60 as the costs in respect of the claims.
