People can experience climbing the bun tower frame during the Climbing Carnival of the 2010 Bun Carnival, which will run from noon to 6pm at Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch on Sunday (May 16).
By making on-site applications on Bun Tower Climbing Fun Day, participants can enjoy the excitement of climbing the 14-metre-tall bun tower frame set up for the Bun Scrambling Competition.
The Bun Tower Climbing Fun Day is divided into three groups - the master group (aged 35 or above), adult group (aged 18 to 34) and youth group (aged below 18 and at least one metre tall). There will be four sessions with each session lasting for an hour. Participants in the three groups in each session who reach the designated height on the bun tower frame in the shortest time will be the winners and be awarded with souvenirs.
Four teams from local tertiary institutions and nine teams representing government departments and commercial and industrial organisations will compete in the invitation relays. The teams making it to the designated height on the bun tower frame in the shortest time will be the winners.
The carnival offers lots of other festive programmes. Members of the public can make wishes on the "wishing bun tower". There will be games stalls featuring the bun festival, climbing sports and greening and environmental protection, handicrafts demonstrations and variety shows, etc. Climbing demonstrations will be given by the Hong Kong Mountaineering Union and winning works of the Bun Scrambling Colouring Contest and Drawing Competition will be on display. By joining the carnival, people will have the chance to get souvenirs featuring the buns.
A total of 12 shortlisted finalists will compete in the finale of the series of events - the Bun Scrambling Competition to be held from 11.30pm on May 21 to 12.30am on May 22 at Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch. Competitors have to scramble for the buns on the bun tower within a time limit. The one with the highest total score will be the winner. Results of the men's team and the women's team will be ranked separately.
