Regarded as one of today's most sought-after pianists, Polish Piotr Anderszewski will give his first Hong Kong solo recital next month (June).
The recital will be held at 8pm, June 27 (Sunday), at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, with a programme comprising Bach's "English Suite No. 5", Szymanowski's "Metopes", Schumann's "Six Etudes in Canonic Form" and Beethoven's "Piano Sonata in A-flat, Op. 110".
Anderszewski is a familiar figure on the international concert circuit, recognised for the intensity and originality of his interpretations. He is a recipient of the Szymanowski Prize (1999) and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Best Instrumentalist award (2001). In April 2002 he received the prestigious Gilmore Award, given every four years to a pianist of exceptional talent.
Anderszewski has collaborated with many ensembles, including the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, the Boston, Chicago and London Symphony Orchestras, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw.
His interpretation of Beethoven's "Diabelli Variations" has been the subject of particular praise, receiving a number of record awards as well as being made into a documentary by Bruno Monsaingeon, who has also made a second documentary, a portrait of the Polish pianist.
"Piano Recital by Piotr Anderszewski" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $120, $180, $240 and $300 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
