Update on cluster of human swine influenza cases in Kwai Chung Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital (KCH) announced the following update today (May 12) regarding an earlier announcement on human swine influenza cases in a female ward:

     Two more patients (aged 40 and 53) have presented with symptoms of fever and flu.  The patients are being treated under isolation at Princess Margaret Hospital and in stable condition.  The hospital will continue to provide treatment to the patients and closely monitor their condition.

     Admission and visits to the ward concerned are suspended for the time being.  Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been stepped up.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow up.
