Exhibition to introduce Sai Kung District Council Public Art Project 2009
************************************************************

Twelve proposals on public art for Sai Kung district will be put on display at the "Sai Kung District Council Public Art Project 2009" exhibition, jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Sai Kung District Council, and organised by the Art Promotion Office (APO), from Monday (January 18).

Aiming to enhance the district environment, stimulate artistic excellence and innovation and reflect the district's characteristics through the creation of unique, site-specific, outdoor public artworks, the project intends to commission four selected artworks through an open call for proposals for production and installation at three LCSD venues in Sai Kung District, namely Man Yee Playground in Sai Kung, and Po Tsui Park and Po Hong Park in Tseung Kwan O.

The first stage of adjudication has been completed and 12 proposals were short-listed from 116 proposals for the second stage of selection. To give the public an opportunity to learn more about public art and the progress of the project, the exhibition is held before the second stage of adjudication begins. The exhibition will feature the detailed content and design concepts along with the models and sketches of the short-listed proposals. Members of the public may take this opportunity to express their views on the short-listed proposals.

The exhibition will run from January 18 to 27 at Park Central, Tseung Kwan O, and move on to Sai Kung Jockey Club Town Hall from January 29 to February 8. Admission to the exhibition is free.

The APO will organise public art guided tours on January 24 and 31. The guest speaker on the tours, the President of the Hong Kong Sculpture Society, Mr Victor Tai, will lead participants around the exhibition and then give a guided tour of the public artworks displayed in City Art Square at Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza. The quota for each guided tour is 20 persons on a first-come-first-served basis. For enrolment, please call the APO's Public Art Team at 3101 2738.

Park Central is located at 9 Tong Tak Street, Tseung Kwan O, and its opening hours are from 10am to 10pm. Sai Kung Jockey Club Town Hall at 8 Chan Man Street, Sai Kung, opens from 7.30am to 10pm.

For details of the exhibition and the guided tours, please call the APO at 3101 2738 or visit the APO website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/apo .
