The Government today (March 13) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Regulation 2009. The regulation came into effect on the same date.
¡°The regulation implements sanctions against Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1857,¡± a Government spokesman said.
The sanctions under the regulation include:
- prohibition against the supply, delivery and carriage of arms and related material to persons operating in the territory of the DR Congo;
- prohibition against the provision to such persons of assistance, advice or training related to military activities;
- prohibition against making available to or for the benefit of certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources; and
- prohibition against entry into or transit through the HKSAR by certain persons.
