From tomorrow (January 23) to February 5, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre will stage the "Art Specialist Course 2008-2009 Graduation Exhibition" to show works created by 32 graduating students of the course. About 100 sculptures, paintings and printmaking artworks, including two-dimensional, three-dimensional and installation works, will be displayed.
The exhibition was opened today (January 22) by the Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of Leisure and Cultural Services, Dr Ng Chi-wa, and the course co-ordinators, Ms Liu Siu-jane (printmaking), Mr Lee Chin-fai (sculpture) and Mr Li Yau-mang (painting).
Organised by the Art Promotion Office, the Art Specialist Course, which is the seventh this year, aims to provide holistic learning and practising opportunities for art lovers who wish to develop their individual artistic direction for future pursuits.
Mr Lee Chin-fai, Mr Li Yau-mang and Ms Liu Siu-jane, who are renowned artists, were the course co-ordinators of sculpture, painting and printmaking respectively this year. They organised a number of workshops, visits, lectures and tutorials combined with theoretical and practical work to enable students to develop their own artistic styles.
During the nine-month course, and under the professional mentoring of the three course co-ordinators, students were able to gain an in-depth understanding of the local art scene, consolidate their skills and enhance their knowledge of the visual arts for future artistic pursuits.
Currently, the 2009-2010 Art Specialist Course, which offers training in ink painting, Chinese calligraphy and ceramics, is open for application and the deadline is February 27. For details, please call 3101 2735 or visit the APO website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/apo/ .
