The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 20) obtained five orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $800,000 against five employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued 10 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $140,000 on behalf of 36 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgments against five employers, namely, Chin Ngai Drainage Company Limited, Fung Shing Steel Furniture Co. Ltd, Gold Rising Foods Company Limited, Hangson Sign Production Limited and Topstyle Printing Equipment Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $289,479.19, $193,894.80, $150,711.65, $81,305.08 and $79,748.32, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 26, 10, nine, six and five employees of the defendants respectively.
Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, five defendants, namely Hentech Technologies Limited, Adrian Engineering Limited, Sze-Li (China HK) Transportation Company Limited, Well Union Maritime Limited and Poly Lane International Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $47,985, $17,834.82, $17,311.5, $13,200 and $10,831.52, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other five defendants, namely Yen Hau Ming Anna trading as Yen & Co. Solicitors, Yu Sui Nag Kenos trading as Road Side Bar, Tang Tat Worldwide Logistics & Express Limited, Team well Logistics (GK) Limited and Pride hill Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MP FA the sums of $21,036.22, $10,842.5, $5,588.74, $2,052.01 and $173.88, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPG accounts as soon as they are received by the MP FA. The District Court ordered the defendants each to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $176, $196, $176, $176, $190, $160, $80, $130 and $146 as the costs in respect of the claims. Size-Li (China GK) Transportation Company Limited was ordered to remit costs.
