The Hong Kong Flower Show 2009 will be held from March 13 to 22 at Victoria Park. This year's flower show features "Blossoming Welcome for the East Asian Games" as its theme and Cosmos as its theme flower.

The flower show now invites members of the public to take part in its plant exhibit competition, whose winning entries will be displayed for public enjoyment at the show. Applications are free of charge and the deadline is February 6.

The Hong Kong Flower Show is a major annual event presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) to promote horticulture and the awareness of greening. Each year, it provides an opportunity for hundreds of thousands of local citizens and horticulture lovers from all over the world to appreciate the beauty of flowers and share their experiences in flower cultivation. The last show attracted over 540,000 visitors and more than 200 organisations from 21 countries.

The plant exhibit competition, comprising Open and School categories, is divided into 15 sections and 92 classes. The sections include orchid, Chinese cymbidium, potted plant, cactus and succulent, foliage and carnivorous plant, African violet, bonsai type plant, Western style and Oriental manner floral arrangements, floral art by school children, primary and secondary school potted plant growing/nursing, and school garden plot competition.

Section winners will be awarded trophies. The Hong Kong Flower Show Cups will be awarded to the best exhibits of the Open and School categories. A prize presentation ceremony will be held during the show at Victoria Park.
