UN Sanctions (Cote d'Ivoire)(No.2) Regulation 2008 gazetted

     The Government today (December 12) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Cote d'Ivoire)(No.2) Regulation 2008, which also came into effect today.

     "The regulation implements the sanctions against Cote d'Ivoire imposed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 1842," a government spokesman said.

     The sanctions under the regulation include:

* Prohibition against the supply, delivery and carriage of arms and related material to Cote d'Ivoire;

* Prohibition against the provision of advice, assistance or training related to military activities in certain circumstances;

* Prohibition against making available to, or for the benefit of, certain persons or entities any funds or other financial assets or economic resources;

* Prohibition against entry into or transit through the HKSAR of certain persons; and

* Prohibition against importation of rough diamonds from Cote d'Ivoire.
