Man fined for illegal clubhouse operation
*****************************************

Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (May 7) fined a man $3,500 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

During an inspection last November, an officer from the Home Affairs Department's Office of the Licensing Authority posed as customer and ordered food at a clubhouse on Nathan Road, Mong Kok. The club neither verified the  membership status of the officer nor invited her to join the club.

The man, holder of the Certificate of Compliance (CoC) of the clubhouse, contravened the special condition of the CoC that the clubhouse could serve members and their accompanied guests only on the club premises. The man was subsequently charged under section 21(2) of the ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said the department would continue to take strict enforcement action against illegal clubhouse operation. He also appealed to the public to report non-compliance cases to the OLA on 2881 7498.
