Eight employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 25) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $85,000 on behalf of 13 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, Crystal View Consultants Limited trading as Central Digital Photo Finishing Centre and Ng Wai Ching formerly trading as Je t'Aime Bridal, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $23,068.5 and $18,343.45, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other six defendants, namely, Food Scope Limited trading as Crescent Boulangeria et Cafˆm, Hills Partners Limited, Lung Kong Logistics Company Limited, Fame Harvest Development Limited, Sheetech Metal Factory Limited and Yip Ki Wa trading as Clean Work Environment Services Co., did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $11,613, $10,913.19, $9,256.8, $6,293.32, $4,307.5, $1,386, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $250, $210, $156, $168, $96, $90, $96 and $130 as the costs in respect of the claims.
