Following is the transcript (English portion) of remarks made by the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, after meeting heads of the eight University Grants Committee (UGC) funded institutions today (April 21):

Secretary for Home Affairs: The UGC-funded institutions have been supporting elite sportsmen in recent years. What we discussed today is to have a more structured programme, which includes more flexible arrangements for elite sportsmen for them to complete their studies while finding the time to receive training for international competitions. The institutions will be providing support, such as some structured bridging programmes for the students to meet the academic requirements. Also, some institutions will provide mentors to help the athletes throughout their university life.
