Local artistes to give an evening of opera excerpts and Chinese songs

    Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "An Evening of Opera Excerpts and Chinese Songs", featuring nine young local vocalists, will be staged in May.

    Performing in the concert are sopranos Yuki Ip, Jovita Leung and Margaret Yim; mezzo-sopranos Carol Lin and Melody Sze; tenors David Quah and Alex Tam; baritone Albert Lim; bass Edmund Kwan; and pianists Nina Yip and Timmy Tsang playing the accompaniment.

    The programme includes many popular opera excerpts such as Verdi's Brindisi from "La Traviata" , Donizetti's Sextet from "Lucia di Lammermoor", Richard Strauss's Silver Rose Duet from "Der Rosenkavalier" , Mozart's Trio from "Cosi fan tutte", Offenbach's Violin Aria from "Le Contes d¡¯Hoffmann", and Gounod's Trio finale from "Faust". Classic Chinese songs to be featured are Lin Sheng-shih's "All Red The River", Qing Zhu's "River of No Return", Huang Zhenwen's "Clouds in the Sky", Chan Wai-kong's "Song of Shi-jing", and many more.

    "An Evening of Opera Excerpts and Chinese Songs" will be staged at 8pm on May 18 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $180, $140 and $100 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens aged 60 or over, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
