Seven employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 16) obtained one order in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $140,000 against an employer. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $31,000 on behalf of six employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    The District Court today issued judgment against one employer, namely, Ad-Magnetics Company Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $140,651.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to four employees of the defendant.

    Meanwhile, at the tribunal's hearing today, three defendants, namely Bright Smooth (HK) Limited trading as Roda Japanese Whampoa Restaurant, Metro World Engineering Limited and Profit Wise (HK) Limited did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $15,219.14, $5,691.79 and $1,271.02, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other three defendants, including Wong Ching Wo trading as Lok To Kui Restaurant (translation), Johnny Air Cargo (HK) Limited and Lau Gar Po trading as Great George Laundry Co., did not appear at today,s hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $21,787.5, $8,312.5 and $720, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded at both the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendant to pay costs of $930. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $145, $70, $56, $180, $60 and $120 as the costs in respect of the claims.
