Hongkong Post announced today (April 14) that the existing Texaco Road Post Office at Shop Nos. 25-30, G/F, Wealthy Garden, 28-32 Texaco Road, Tsuen Wan, will be closed down after the close of business on Saturday, April 19, 2008. The office will be replaced by the new Yeung Uk Road Post Office at Shop No. 15, 1/F, Indihome, 138 Yeung Uk Road, Tsuen Wan, which will open for business on Monday, April 21, 2008. Yeung Uk Road Post Office is about a 10-minute walk from Texaco Road Post Office.
Texaco Road Post Office has been operating in the present premises since 1993. However, the central air-conditioning system of the shopping centre, where the post office is situated, ceased functioning from early 2007. In addition, the hall ceiling of the post office has been spalling. As a result, a third of the hall has had to be partitioned off. Despite repeated requests, the owner has failed to undertake the maintenance works. In view of the condition of the said premises, the Architectural Services Department considers it undesirable to continue using the premises as a post office. To ensure the provision of safe, comfortable facilities and environment to both the public and post office staff, Hongkong Post decided to find alternative premises for relocation, and thereby continue rendering counter services to the area. In this connection, the new location at Yeung Uk Road is the most suitable option in the area.
Yeung Uk Road Post Office will officially open on April 21 (Monday). The business hours of the Yeung Uk Road Post Office will be the same as those of the Texaco Road Post Office:
Monday to Friday: 9.30am - 5pm
Saturday: 9.30am - 1pm
No private post office boxes will be provided at the Yeung Uk Road Post Office. Arrangements have been made for existing post office box holders at Texaco Road Post Office to take up a box at alternative post offices where vacant boxes are available, or terminate the tenancy.
A $2 souvenir cover will be issued to mark the event. For the convenience of philatelists, the souvenir cover will be put on sale at certain post offices on the dates listed below:

A special hand-back service will be provided at the Yeung Uk Road Post Office on Monday, April 21, 2008, whereby official and privately-made covers with full postage prepaid and bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address will be accepted and impressed with the normal post office datestamp at the counter and handed back to customers.
