Nine Employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 31) obtained three orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $1,170,000 against three employers in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $55,000on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    The District Court today issued judgments against three employers, namely, Yee Hop Engineering Company Limited, Hangson Sign Production Limited and Lo Kwok Leung formerly trading as Kam Fook Engineering Co. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $451,850.65 and $376,972.18 and 347,727.23, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 489, 23 and 22 employees of the defendants respectively.

    Meanwhile, at the Tribunal¡¯s hearing today, the six defendants, including Jusco Enterprises Limited trading as Sea Master Food Company, Tong Yiu Ming trading as Kai Kwong Construction Co, Star East Management Limited, Fung Chi Ming trading as Uni-Fashions Company, South Bay Vietnamese Restaurant Limited and Hui Yuk Sheung trading as Mattress Direct-Sale Shop, did not appear at today¡¯s hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $29,910.88, $16,117.5, $4,200, $3,254.17, $1,363 and $415.43, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¯ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court ordered the defendants to pay cost of $930. The Tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $186, $160, $156, $100, $76 and $130 as the costs in respect of the claims.
