The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 27) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $24,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.
Chan Hiu Fung trading as Lee Chung Furniture Mfy Fty, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA $24,780, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $280.
