Five employers ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 29) pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $76,000 on behalf of 28 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the tribunal's hearing today, the five defendants, namely Racket Head Limited, Ocean Discovery Limited, Ever Classic Limited trading as Beautyquad Elixir, Hop Nik Engineering Development Limited and Au Yin Pan trading as Wan Tai Plastic Dyeing Co, did not appear. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $37,229.76, $28,401.8, $6,035.82, $3,872.32 and $518.4, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $150, $106, $108, $136 and $120 as the costs in respect of the claims.
