Two unlicensed food factories in Yuen Long raided (with photos)

    The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Police in a joint operation this morning (February 27) smashed two unlicensed food factories in Yuen Long and seized about 355 kilogrammes of food, including Chinese puddings and fried dough sticks, as well as some cooking paraphernalia.

    Acting on information, officers raided two structures in Pak Sha Tsuen, Kung Um Road, being used as unlicensed food factories. Three men and three women were arrested and are assisting investigations.

    An FEHD spokesman said stringent enforcement action would continue to be taken against unlicensed food businesses to safeguard food safety and public health.

    Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food factory is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

    "People should report such illegal activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000," the spokesman said.
