Nine employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 25) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $210,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

    At the Tribunal's hearing today, the four defendants, including Choi Kim Wan trading as Mei Nga Trading Co, Basic Tank (Fashion) Limited, Leung Wan Kwong trading as Hung Tai Car Service and Creative International Holdings Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $38,720, $37,648, $23,889.92 and $22,365, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other five defendants, including Esray Production Studio Limited, Wayson Holdings International Investment Limited, Cheuk Hing Yuen trading as Hit Team Express, Cheung Sing Kwong Edmen formerly trading as Greenfeel Vegetarian and Poly Group (Asia) Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $39,482.86, 34,291.73, $7,015.11, $5,590 and $1,999.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The Tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $230, $246, $190, $204, $265, $196, $90, $150 and $162 as the costs in respect of the claims.
