Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The following is issued on behalf of Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 21) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $57,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, Painting International Management Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $44,173.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, Lee Tak Fuk Trading Co Ltd and Chan Chi Tat formerly trading as Kai Shing Spicy Crab Kitchen (translation), did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $6,268.16 and $7,272.30, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $198, $96 and $90.
