13 employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 5) obtained one order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $80,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued 12 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $200,000 on behalf of 38 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against an employers, namely, Super Bond Engineering & Enterprise Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $82,855.21, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to three employees of the defendant.

    At the Tribunal's hearing today, the three defendants, including Yeung Yo Si trading as Yaesakura Japan Fashion Wholesale Co., Worldwide Hi-Fi & Video Centre Limited and Lee Sang Restaurant Group Limited former trading as Yau Lee Dim Sum Restaurant (translation), did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $40,483.23, $7,521.26 and $7,506.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

    The other nine defendants, including Lonnix Garments Holding Limited, World Trade PR & Promotion Limited (formerly known as World Trade Promotion Limited), New Diamond Industrial Limited, Prodio (Asia) Company Limited, Pridehill Limited, Wealthy Time Investment Limited trading as Fuk Wan Seafood Hotpot Restaurant, AMT Group Limited trading as A-Tech Electronic, Asia Prosper Holdings Limited and Tsui Tung Hon trading as Fui Lai Restaurant, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $46,661, $36,590.4, $17,580.05, $14,715.08, $12,626.92, $9,555, $5,542.7, $4,814.89 and $3,299.1 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court further ordered the defendants to pay costs of $930 and the Tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $210, $76, $130, $216, $170, $139, $150, $106, $166, $156, $159 and $210 as the costs in respect of the claims.
