Canadian comedian to deliver fun in summer
******************************************

Canadian comedian Al Simmons will give some "one-man, multi-prop, music-filled and off the wall" performances in Hong Kong this summer.

Simmons will play his bizarre homemade versions of stringed, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments to explain the principles of sound waves, vibrations, resonance, and pitch. In typical Simmons' style, he manages to coax music out of tin cans, soda straws, garden hoses, plastic drink bottles, rulers, coat hangers, and even a turkey baster. He teaches audiences the importance of recycling and re-using and they, too, can make music out of found items - even stuff that is headed for the landfill site. While homemade instruments may not have the most sophisticated of sounds, their construction will have the essence of, and be played using the same principles as the finest most expensive store-bought kind.

The performances will start at 7.30pm. Details are as follows:

Theatre, Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre
July 26 and 27 (Thursday and Friday)
Tickets: $160, $100

Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre
July 28 (Saturday)
Tickets: $120

Cultural Activities Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall
July 29 (Sunday)
Tickets: $140

In the tradition of the great comedy kings, Danny Kaye, Spike Jones and Jimmy Durante comes Simmons - a man dedicated to the all but lost art of combining comedy, with song, dance, magic, sight gags and of course bad puns. Simmons' humour touches a responsive chord in people of every age. His costume-and-prop routines have often been the most popular and talked about act in theatres and concert halls and at folk, children's and other festivals across the globe.

"Al Simmons - Inventive Music and Comedy" is one of the entertaining programmes in "International Arts Carnival" presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
