Young musicians bring delightful music fun in summer

    Up to 400 budding musicians who are to receive intensive training from renowned local, overseas and Mainland musicians at the "2007 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp" will perform in two afternoon concerts, sharing their achievements with the public.

     The first concert will be at 3pm on July 29 at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre with performances by the Camp Symphonic Band, Junior Chinese Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.

     The second concert will be at 3pm on August 5 at the Auditorium of the Tuen Mun Town Hall with performances by the Camp Junior String Orchestra, Youth Choir and Chinese Orchestra.

     Conductors for the concerts will be Assistant Conductor of Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra  Scott Parkman; Director of Wind Symphony Programme at the Queensland Conservatorium of Griffith University Mr Ralph Hultgren; the Conductor of Central National Music Orchestra and Resident Conductor of China Youth National Music Orchestra Liu Sha and Professor of voice and Director of choral activities of St John¡¯s University in Minnesota, Dr Axel Theimer.

     More than 150 talented young musicians from the Vermont Youth Orchestra (USA) and the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra will also perform in a joint concert at 8pm on July 6 at the Auditorium of the Kwai Tsing Theatre. The spectacular cultural sharing night will be led by the distinguished conductors Troy Peters and Tsui Ying Fai, featuring classic works of the 20th century and folk melodies from China.

     Founded in 1963, the Vermont Youth Orchestra draws its members from talented young musicians in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire. It presents three major concerts each year at Burlington's Flynn Centre for the Performing Arts. The orchestra has performed with the renowned violinist Midori.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the "2007 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp Concerts" and the "Vermont Youth Orchestra (USA) and Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra Joint Concert" are part of the summer extravaganza "International Arts Carnivals 2007".

     Tickets at $60 and $40 are available at URBTIX outlets from tomorrow (May 18). Half-price concessionary tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
