Regarding a female ward for the severe mentally handicapped in Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) in which there were patients presented with fever and upper respiratory symptoms earlier, the hospital announced the following update today (May 16):
There are five more female patients (aged 21 to 40) presented with fever and cough symptoms. They are in stable condition and are being treated under isolation. There are a total of 14 patients presented with the above symptoms since May 8. Regarding the tests conducted earlier, the results of four patients are positive to para-influenza.
Admission to and discharge from the ward concerned have been suspended while restricted visiting policy has been implemented. Families of the patients concerned have been duly informed. Infection control measures have been stepped up in the wards and all patients and health care staff are under close medical surveillance.
SLH has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
