Smart Identity Card Centres to close
************************************

All Smart Identity Card Centres will be closed from Saturday (May 19), an Immigration Department spokesman said today (May 16).

Starting from next Monday (May 21), people who made application at Smart Identity Card Centres but have not yet collected their new identity cards should have their identity cards collected at a designated Registration of Persons Office.  Please see Annex for the arrangements.

"People who missed their specified call-up periods and have not replaced their old identity cards should apply at any of the Registration of Persons Offices as soon as possible.  Those born in 1989 or 1996 should apply for smart identity cards when they attain the age of 18 or 11 respectively," the spokesman said.

For holders of old identity cards who cannot have their identity cards replaced during the specified call-up periods of the Smart Identity Card Replacement Exercise due to their absence from Hong Kong, they should apply within 30 days of their return to Hong Kong.  They can book an appointment by calling the hotline 2598 0888 or visiting the ESDlife website at www.esd.gov.hk.  However, they don't have to rush back to Hong Kong just to replace their identity cards.

For further information, please visit www.smartid.gov.hk or call the Immigration Department hotline 2824 6111.
