Siu Lam Hospital fever cases
****************************

A Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) spokesperson made the following announcement today (May 14):

Since May 8, nine female patients (aged 21 to 56) of a severe mentally handicapped ward have presented with fever and upper respiratory symptoms.  Four of the nine patients have been transferred to the isolation ward of Tuen Mun Hospital for further management and the remaining patients are being treated under isolation in SLH.  All of the patients are in stable condition and clinical tests are being arranged.

Admission to and discharge from the ward concerned have been suspended while a restricted visiting policy has been implemented.  Families of the patients concerned have been duly informed.  Infection control measures have been stepped up in the wards and all patients and health care staff are under close medical surveillance.

SLH has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary following up.
