Update on three patients presenting with fever and upper respiratory infection symptoms in Kowloon Hospital

    Following the announcement dated 11 May 2007 on a rehabilitation ward in Kowloon Hospital in which there were three patients presenting with fever and upper respiratory infection symptoms, the hospital announced the following updates today (13 May 2007):

     Today there is one more female patient (aged 27) of the ward concerned presenting with fever and upper respiratory infection symptoms. The patient is being isolated for treatment and in stable condition. Since 11 May 2007, there are totally four patients (two male and two female) presenting with the symptoms. Appropriate clinical tests are being carried out.

     Infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been enhanced. There will be no admission to and discharge from the ward for the time being.  All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
