Appointment of New Chief Executive of Consumer Council
******************************************************

The Government today (March 1) welcomed the appointment of Ms Connie Lau Yin Hing as Chief Executive of the Consumer Council, with effect from April 1.

The Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Mr Stephen Ip, said that, given Ms Lau's experience in recent years as Deputy Chief Executive of the council and her deep understanding of the concerns  of consumers in Hong Kong, she was well placed to be the next Chief Executive of the Consumer Council.

"I look forward to continuing to work closely with  the Consumer Council in  promoting consumer rights of both Hong Kong residents and visitors," he said.

Mr Ip also paid tribute to the valuable contribution of the outgoing Chief Executive, Mrs Pamela Chan, both to the Consumer Council and in promoting consumer awareness in Hong Kong during her tenure.

"Mrs Chan's efforts in advocating and protecting consumer rights  are well recognised both locally and worldwide. Her work with the Consumer Council has been outstanding. With her dedication, we have seen the emergence of an informed consumer culture in Hong Kong," Mr Ip said.

"I would also like to thank the Search Committee led by the Chairman of the Consumer Council, Professor K C Chan, for its good work."
