ETWB responds to news report on Sha Tin to Central Link
*******************************************************

In response to a newspaper report on the Sha Tin to Central Link (SCL) today (February 23), a spokesman for the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau said that the Government was now examining the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC)'s proposal on SCL and the proposed SCL scheme under the  merger of the two railway systems, in the light of the impact brought by the various infrastructure projects being planned along the SCL alignment. The Government has not yet reached any decision.

In order to meet the transport needs of the community in a more effective manner, the Government would also study the possibility of implementing the SCL in phases, including the option of implementing the section between Tai Wai and Hung Hom first and completing the remaining section between Hung Hom and Hong Kong Island later. Again, no final decision has been reached.

As regards the railway service in Whampoa district, the Government is examining the KCRC's proposal of an Automated People Mover system and the MTR Corporation Limited's proposed extension of the Kwun Tong Line.

"We plan to make a decision on SCL and the way forward for the railway service in Whampoa district at the same time," the spokesman said.
